Gray Horse Farm is a family-run horse farm in Powhatan, Virginia. We host a hunter and jumper show series each year, with classes for everyone from lead line to the bigger jumpers.
What happens here
Four reasons people come up the driveway
Horse shows
Four weekends a year. Jumpers on Saturday, hunters on Sunday, with ribbons, division champions, and year-end series awards.
Full board
A small, quiet barn with room for two boarders. Big stalls, a lit outdoor ring, and pasture and trail to ride on.
Rider coaching
Show nerves, or confidence knocked by a fall? Courtenay coaches riders through it with Unbridled Mindset.
Equine assisted therapy
Therapy sessions with the horses, on the ground and outdoors, offered here at the farm through Gray Horse Counseling.

Meet the owner
Courtenay Baber
I grew up on a horse farm in Central Virginia and started showing as a child with my mother and sister. We raised cows and pigs for 4-H, and my family were active members of Deep Run Hunt Club. As a junior I showed in the Junior Jumpers at rated shows around Virginia, including Roanoke Valley and Middleburg National.
After college, my mother and I kept showing and started a small breeding program of Dutch Warmbloods and Oldenburgs. Watching the young horses we raised grow up was one of the great pleasures of my life. In those years my sister ran Richmond Saddlery, and I managed its mobile unit while showing my own horses in the adult amateur divisions.
When my mother died in 2009, I ran the family farm with my father as a small boarding barn. After he passed, I knew it was time for a new chapter, and Gray Horse Farm began.
It is my hope this farm will be a place to bring out the best in everyone.
